Department of Survey and Research

The Division of Survey and Research is in charge of the management and application of the information assets accumulated by the JGS research task groups, conferences and symposiums. The role of our division is decided by the status quo at any given time and by the foresight provided by the many theories, applications and techniques developed in the field of geotechnical engineering.

This department manages three permanent committees and some research task groups.

Survey and Research Management Committee

The Survey and Research Management Committee coordinates and arranges research task groups.
– The management of research task groups
* Collecting information of new themes on Geotechnical Engineering
* Setting up new task groups
* Operating the task groups
* Publishing the accomplishments of the survey and research
– Holding committee-hosted symposiums on Geotechnical Engineering
– Planning for public research themes

Event committee

The event committee is responsible for the management of events related to the Japan National Conference on Geotechnical Engineering and The Japan National Symposium on Geotechnical Engineering, and reports to and coordinates with the related organizations, such as the various branches of the Japanese Geotechnical Society.
– The Japan National Symposium on Geotechnical Engineering
* Recruitment and selection of themes
* Thesis recruitment and examination
* Program organization
– The Japan National Conference on Geotechnical Engineering
* Site management,Coordination with branch where the event will take place
* Calling for papers
* Program organization
* The chairman’s selection
* Issuing the collected papers
* Selection of the order of the holding branch
*Site management, holding technological exhibitions, special lectures, coordinating with the branches holding the exchange meetings

Science Information Committee

The role of the Science Information Committee is to handle and archive the information accumulated through the various functions of the JGS.
– Collecting and organizing the science information necessary for the department
– Integrating the information accumulated by research for publication purposes
– Maintenance of the JGS library and digital publication of the JGS Digital Library.

Research Planning Committee

The research planning committee was established to collect information on research area of interest, to obtain research funding from other institutions and to manage various research subcommittees.
The outcomes of this committee have been used to decide on the focus of the various research committees and as the basis for symposiums.
At the present time, the three research committees below are in operation;
– The Planning Committee on the Geoenvironment
– The Planning Committee on Earthquake Disasters
– The Planning Committee on Slope Disasters
