A large earthquake (M7.6) occurred at 4:10 pm on January 1 in 2024. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the northern part of Noto Peninsula. Serious damages covering the four prefectures in Hokuriku (Ishikawa, Fukui, Toyama, and Niigata prefectures) due to the earthquake have been already reported. Immediately after the disaster, the Japan Geotechnical Society (JGS) has organized a team for the investigation of Noto Peninsula Earthquake headed by Shunichi Kobayashi (Kanazawa University) in the Hokuriku branch of JGS. The investigation of geotechnical or geological aspects of the disaster has been continuing.
